On the corner of First Avenue and 11th Street now stands a Michael Jackson mural the size of an entire five-story building. The piece, created by Brazilian artist Eduardo Kobra, depicts a split face showing Michael Jackson as an adult and as a child.
The vibrant mural is true to Kobra’s colorful, kaleidoscope style with his distinct diamond pattern dividing the two faces. With what would have been the king of pop’s 60th birthday coming up on August 29, it is a tribute to his his lifelong influence and a celebration of what would have been a milestone birthday.
Also celebrating Michael Jackson this month is Spike Lee. He will be throwing a public block party in honor of MJ several days before his birthday, August 25. The eight annual Brooklyn Loves Michael Jackson Block Party will take place between Lexington Avenue and Quincy Street, on Stuyvesant Avenue from noon until 7 p.m.
