Veselka has been around since the 1950s, serving customers delicious Ukrainian dishes and continuing to be a pillar of comfort in the East Village.
From pierogi, borscht, goulash and more, Veselka (meaning rainbow in Ukrainian) was once a tiny shop when it first opened. Several years later, its transformed into a massive restaurant that served food 24-hours a day and hasn’t left its location since. For seasoned customers, this place has an undeniable history and has become an institution.
The menu is extensive with options for breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks. They also feature weekly specials and seasonal beverages.
One of our favorite things about this place is the Friday & Saturday “you-should-be-sleeping-but-since-you’re-not” menu which has some fun dishes available from midnight ’til the sun rises! What a great way to switch up your typical end of a night out routine with some tasty pierogis instead of a pizza.
For those that love cooking and are interested in learning from some of the experts, they’re offering a pierogi making class on March 6th. Get ready to roll your sleeves up and really get into the process. From making the dough, to learning the delicate process of forming the pierogi’s, to filling them, to the best part… eating them. Classes take place in Veselka’s very own kitchen by seasoned Chefs Olesia Lew and Dima Martseniuk. Book here for $75.
