Along with pizza, New Yorkers are very passionate about where to get the best bagels in NYC, and it’s no secret Utopia Bagels has been a top contender since opening four decades ago in Whitestone, Queens.
And now, for the first time since 1981, Utopia Bagels has announced they’re expanding to Manhattan!
The news was recently announced on their Instagram, with a post bearing a caption reading, “See you in 2024 Midtown Manhattan📍🥯,” very short, sweet, and straight to the point.
Since first opening, Utopia Bagels has been implementing the old world process that we all love so much of individually hand-rolling their bagels and kettle boiling them before baking–which they do with love, of course, as they state on their website.
This process is what gives the bagels their distinctive taste that generation after generation of New Yorkers have come to love so dearly.
According to Eater, the new location will be slightly smaller than the original but will feature a similar glass window that allows customers a behind-the-scenes look at the bagel-making process.
Their new location will be situated on 34th Street and Lexington Avenue, more specifically at 120 E. 34th Street in Murray Hill.
Jesse Spellman, son of owner Scott Spellman, told Eater they chose this area because it had less competition from other bagel shops but still felt like a neighborhood.
Eater reports that they’re hoping to open in June 2024.
