It was a busy weekend for Labor Day travel as TSA screened a record high of 10.4 million passengers between Friday, August 29th and Monday, September 1st, 2025.
Friday, August 29th was the busiest travel day of the weekend, with TSA screening a total of 2,971,217 passengers. That set an all-time record for a Friday before Labor Day and ranked as the 15th busiest day in TSA’s 24-year history.
June 22nd, 2025 remains the busiest air travel day ever recorded, when TSA screened 3,096,797 passengers across the country.
The five busiest travel days in TSA history are:
- June 22, 2025 – 3,096,797 passengers screened
- December 1, 2024 – 3,088,836 passengers screened
- July 6, 2025 – 3,041,954 passengers screened
- June 23, 2025 – 2,953,920 passengers screened
- June 27, 2025 – 2,935,000 passengers screened
“As air travel continues to reach record high trajectories, TSA is fully prepared to meet the growing demand by maintaining a close partnership with our aviation industry partners,” said TSA Acting Deputy Administrator Adam Stahl. “Thanks to Homeland Security Secretary Noem’s leadership, this was a summer of remarkable change at TSA, as we focused on enhancing the traveler experience while continuing to strengthen our security posture.”
TSA has continued to unveil various new initiatives over the summer to improve traveler convenience. These programs include:
- “Serve with Honor, Travel with Ease” – dedicated screening lanes for military members at select airports.
- An end to the “Shoes-Off” policy – passengers no longer have to remove their shoes going through airport security, even without TSA PreCheck
- TSA PreCheck Touchless ID – the fastest way to get through security, using facial recognition technology to verify identification
- “Families on the Fly” – dedicated family lanes at select airports
