Coming in at number one is Brazil. Popular for Carnival (which occurs in February) and the lush Amazon rainforest, it’s actually the fourth tropical destination Americans want to visit the most. Following Brazil is Thailand—Americans’ top choice for a tropical destination. Thailand is found in 6,750 Google searches each month per 100,000 citizens residing in the United States. It’s also the most searched tropical destination in 22 of the 50 states.

Costa Rica, coming in third for New Yorkers specifically, maintains the second most-sought after destination for Americans as a whole. The colorful country racks up 6,124 Google searches per 100,000 American citizens each month. It’s direct translation to ‘Rich Coast’ speaks to the lands fruitful parks, wildlife and resorts.

“Budding tropical travelers should brush up on their Spanish because the study also showed that 40% of the top ten destinations were Spanish-speaking, making Spanish more common than any other language. Interestingly, English was found to be the official language in two of the top destinations, Australia and Belize,” added McLoughlin.
