A brand new VR experience is open in NYC, transporting you to the start of the impressionist movement as we know it. Don your headset, and find yourself in Nadar’s studio in 1874 Paris.
165 pieces from impressionist icons (Claude Monet, Auguste Renoir, Berthe Morisot, Paul Cézanne, Camille Pissarro, Edgar Degas…) come to life in virtual reality — giving you the unparalleled opportunity to take in their paintings up-close. Room after room, place after place, you’ll travel back in time to the very start of Impressionism.
Experience the gathering that changed the course of art history!
Tonight with the Impressionists takes you to that fateful studio on Boulevard des Capucines, where moguls of the impressionist movement assembled to present their artworks for the first time. These pieces were seen as provocative and visionary, so they counted on this first exhibition outside of an official Salon to make a mark on the art world. And thanks to that anticipation-filled evening, we now consider Monet, Renoir, Degas and many more as artistic legends.
During the VR experience, Nadar’s studio takes shape before your eyes — almost as if you were there on that brisk 1874 night.
Wander through the “Salon de peinture et de sculpture,” Frédéric Bazille’s studio (where the concept of impressionism came to life), and walk on Île de la Grenouillère, where Monet and Renoir created their incredible collection of joint paintings. The adventure also takes you to Le Havre, where Monet painted the legendary Impression, Sunrise!
Capturing what Paris, and some of France, looked like in the 1870s, Tonight with the Impressionists gives us a glimpse into the time period. Whether you’re a historical fanatic, art lover or simply curious, the experience is open to all. Plus, the immersive expedition comes from the same creators as Horizon of Khufu — so you’re in for a treat.
