The Savannah Bananas baseball team is gearing up for a game at NBT Bank Stadium in Syracuse next month, and you won’t want to miss it.
Not a baseball fan? Don’t think that matters too much, because let’s just say this team is anything but ordinary. This team in fact doesn’t even play baseball, but instead plays Banana Ball. It’s what they describe as “the fastest and most entertaining game of baseball.”
The players are light on their feet, performing dances to everything from Britney Spears to Toby Keith, all the while dressed in kilts. Is your interest piqued yet? With the most entertaining of walk-ups, the world’s tallest hitter and pitcher who stands 10 feet tall, and scoring celebrations you’d never be able to guess, the games are full of entertainment.
Their home stadium is Grayson Stadium in Savannah, Georgia, otherwise referred to as Bananaland. Fans can stay satiated at the stadium with all-you-can-eat hotdogs, hamburgers, chicken sandwiches, popcorn and cookies. For drinks, visitors can sip on special Savannah Banana Beer or their signature alcoholic beverage, the Slippery Banana.
The Bananas all started in 2016 and instantly went viral with mentions on both SportsCenter and Good Morning America. Throughout the team’s seven years, it has raised money for a multitude of schools, churches, organizations, and non-profits.
All players on both teams (The Savannah Bananas and The Party Animals) are recruited and paid. Even former MLB icons such as Jonny Gomes, Bill Lee, and Josh Reddick have played with the Bananas professional team.
New Yorkers can get their tickets for the September 14th game in Syracuse now.
