Last week, the Michelin Guide announced its new hotel distinction, the Michelin Key, that will recognize the most distinguished hotels around the world.
Already, more than 5,000 hotels worldwide have been selected by the Michelin Guide teams, but this special new honor will really separate the best from the best.
“The MICHELIN Key is a clear, reliable indication for travelers. Just as the MICHELIN Star distinguishes those restaurants that are at the peak of their art, the MICHELIN Key recognizes the most exceptional hotels throughout the world. It is also an acknowledgment of the teamwork of committed enthusiastic hospitality professionals,” says Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the MICHELIN Guide.
The Michelin Guide teams have been rethinking its hotel selection for the past four years, striving to recommend true destinations excelling in all areas of architectural choices, craftsmanship, detail to doing a job, and asserting your own personality. The Michelin Key will officially be implemented starting in 2024.
Michelin Keys will be determined based on five criteria, varying in price and style:
- A destination unto itself: the hotel contributes to the local experience
- Excellence in architecture and interior design
- Quality and regularity of service, comfort and maintenance
- Singularity reflecting the personality of the establishment, its unique character
- Consistency between the quality of the experience and the price paid
As done with restaurant visits for Michelin Stars, all stays by the Michelin Guide teams will be anonymous. Currently, the Michelin Guide teams are searching for the first ever Michelin Key recipients. Those selected will be announced in the first half of 2024.
