Harlem’s Apollo Theater is getting a major facelift! But don’t worry—patrons will still be able to enjoy shows on The Apollo stages at The Victoria, just a short distance away.
Here’s everything you need to know about the ongoing renovations at The Apollo Theater.
What’s being renovated at The Apollo Theater?
Renovations will be made to the historic theater, the soundstage, and lobby, with upgrades coming to the HVAC system, audio, lighting, and restroom facilities.
Once completed, the lobby will feature a newly designed cafe and bar that will be open to the public daily. Improvements on the soundstage will include expanded seating and production for commercial shoots, private parties and more. Moreover, guest seating will be increased and redesigned to offer better sightlines.

Beyer Blinder Belle Architects + Planners is helming the project renovations alongside theater, acoustics and digital consultants Charcoal Blue and Flyleaf Creative.
How long will renovations take?
Construction on the main lobby began on April 21, 2025, when it first closed to the public. As of July 1st, 2025, The Apollo has closed its doors, and will remain under renovations for the next 12 months.
Will performances stop during the renovations?
Although the performances will temporarily cease in the historic theater, guests can enjoy The Apollo stages at The Victoria Theater, just a few steps away at 233 W. 125th Street.
Programs shown at the Victoria Theater will uplift artists of color across various programming. Performances will take place on the third and fourth floor of the Victoria Theater building. Specifics about the individual programs will be released in the coming months.
