The latest Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez dinner outing on Saturday, May 31st in NYC has everyone talking — and it will certainly inspire you to head to Midtown.
Our pop-country superstar donned a black, sequins Gucci number totaling $10,000 while Gomez wore a monochromatic Jenna Fischer look. Both songstresses were glowing, likely because Swift just won all the rights to her music. (Talk about a reason to celebrate!)
While the paparazzi honed in on the star’s outfits and fans directed their attention to their partners’ whereabouts, we focused on their NYC restaurant of choice: Monkey Bar.
Taylor Swift Selena Gomez dinner at Monkey Bar
Hailing back to 1936, Monkey Bar is nestled in the Hotel Elysée and has an elegant, Jazz Age vibe with dark maroon booths and iconic NYC-centric artwork on its walls. Essentially, it feels like stepping into a time machine and being transported to NYC of years past.
The restaurant serves classic American fare, including shrimp cocktail, handmade pastas like linguine with clams, and hearty meats offerings like prime rib, ribeye steak frites, and the classic NY Strip, to name just a few options. Cocktails are a must, including the classic Negroni and Manhattans.

You might’ve seen the Art Deco establishment before, as it made a few cameos in Sex and the City and Madmen. Vanity Fair editor-in-chief Graydon Carter and hotelier Jeff Klein purchased the restaurant in 2009 and kickstarted a redesign, and its main feature — the large mural — a work of art from Ed Sorel, who often appears in Vanity Fair and The New Yorker.
Why is Monkey Bar, NYC famous?
Known for its monkey decor, elegant ambiance, extensive menu, and TV cameos, the nearly 90-year-old restaurant is etched into the city’s history and will bring a dose of 1930s glamour to the present day.
Is Monkey Bar, NYC hard to get into?
While it can be challenging, we suspect for the time being that the restaurant will get even more attention thanks to its famous clientele. You can reserve a table up to 21 days in advance, and walk-ins are welcome.
Should you feel inclined to copy Swift and Gomez’s girls’ night out, visit the Monkey Bar website and explore its menu. If you’re craving Italian (guilty), check out Taylor’s go-to spot in NYC.
