In a move to tap into “Local Pride” in their big city locations, Target enlisted the services of Iowa native Todd Snyder, to design a collection of T shirts to sell in stores in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Minnesota, Boston, Chicago and San Diego. They quickly came under fire online over the collection. Before we get to crimes against NYC, check out these:

Also, at Target, these authentic #Boston t-shirts feature the “Nepsonset” River. What a morning… #ItsNeponset pic.twitter.com/DQn7QIuOla

Nothing says “I’m not local” like calling San Francisco “San Fran.” Nice try ‘Local Pride’ by @ToddSnyderNY @Target pic.twitter.com/tUTytGA4zN

A cursory look at their online catalog for New York City pulled up these diamonds:
OK Target. Step one… NYC stands for New York City… this is an outline of New York State… Also you’ve placed the NYC over Albany, Saratoga Springs, Ithaca and Syracuse none of which are “NYC”. FYI.
No, just no. Even the most surface level research would have told you that Brooklyn has no beef with the Bronx. If anything, thanks to southern Bronx gentrification, something that Brooklyn has dealt with for years, both boroughs have a lot in common.
Wow, I bet all the people struggling to pay rent in gentrified neighborhoods will be clamoring to pick up one of these beauties.
I would rather wear a “I ♥ NY” T shirt. Seriously, one of the most imitated lines from any NY movie. Is that a scratching sound I hear? Are you hitting the bottom of the barrel?
At this point you’d be forgiven for thinking that Target just don’t know how to spell New York. We assume that what they are going for some kind of NYC accent? Right? Then shouldn’t it be “Noo Yawk”?
