If your ideal dinner involves sushi appearing before your eyes conveyor belt-style, NYC’s next restaurant opening is about to be your personality trait.
Sushiro, a brand new kaiten-style sushi restaurant, is rolling into NYC this fall, bringing endless plates of nigiri, hand rolls, and other Japanese favorites gliding past hungry diners who will absolutely swear they’re only having “just one more plate” (and then immediately grab three more).
Equal parts dinner and entertainment, it’s basically sushi roulette–and New Yorkers are absolutely going to eat it up.
Founded in Osaka in 1984, Sushiro was built on the idea that great sushi should be accessible to everyone. Since then, the beloved chain has expanded to more than 800 locations worldwide, cementing itself as Japan’s top-selling sushi restaurant brand and the largest dine-in sushi chain on the planet.
Now, NYC is finally getting a taste: the upcoming outpost will mark Sushiro’s very first permanent U.S. location.
Taking over a massive 9,000-square-foot space across three floors–in what was formerly a McDonald’s on Times Square’s Eighth Avenue–the restaurant will dish out affordably priced sushi alongside noodle soups like ramen and somen, savory steamed egg custards, and desserts including catalana, warabimochi, and sherbet.
Guests will place their orders through digital kiosks, with their selections then zipping straight from the kitchen to the dining room along the restaurant’s signature conveyor belt.
It’s a delivery system that makes it dangerously easy to lose track of how many plates have stacked up in front of you.
And with more than 100 dishes on the menu, self control may not stand much of a chance.
Once open, the first two floors will feature Sushiro’s signature conveyor belt dining with seating for 150, while a cellar-level space will offer private dining options and an intimate sushi bar experience.
The restaurant is set to open in fall 2026 at 8th Avenue and 42nd Street–right in the heart of Times Square, where something new is always worth stopping for (and in this case, very easy to grab on the way by).
