When POKEE introduced the city to the Sushi Donut last year it went down a storm, but the culinary-chimera soon disappeared from the menu… well now it’s back!
We can only imagine the wide-eyed horror of a child asking for a donut and getting a ring of rice covered in raw fish. We New Yorkers are a strange breed, but ultimately we have to admit, as horrific as the name “Sushi Donut” may sound… the little guys are damned delicious.
When Pokee (121 West 3rd Street) opened late last year it seems like their “sushi donut” would be a staple menu item for some time to come, so when it disappeared may of Pokee’s clients were more than just a little shocked. Well, we’re here to give you some good news, they’re back, but now they’re a “secret menu item.” A secret menu item …is it wrong that we think that makes them seem just a little cooler?
But just what the hell is a Sushi Donut? Spicy salmon-filled rice rings, with layers of cucumber, daikon, sesame seeds, nori seaweed and bubu arare, with yellowfin tuna, salmon, or yellowtail… hungry yet? No? Let’s see if some ‘grams’ whet that appetite of yours:
