If you’re a vegetarian or a vegan who really just misses a good ol’ juicy burger, we’re sure you’ve checked out Superiority Burger at least once for a tasty burger–and if you haven’t you’re in luck, because their new location is opening…..soon.
It won’t be the first time though!
The first Superiority Burger opened back in 2015 by Brooks Headley and his team, according to GrubStreet. Using whatever equipment they could find they built and opened Superiority Burger in 11 weeks, in a 240-square-foot spot near Tompkins Square Park.
The vegetarian/vegan grub spot closed in November 2021 after Headley announced they’d be moving to a larger location, and he thought the opening would take about five months, says GrubStreet.
However, today, a year and and half later, we’re still (im)patiently awaiting the opening of the “the theoretical vegetable restaurant,” as Headley now refers to it.
And with the dishes they’ve been teasing on their Instagram, an opening can’t come quick enough.
Chocolate haupia cream pie, ruby fig and coconut cake, camo cobbler, anaretti-ak mak ricotta pie with orange apricot, tutti frutti pie, and poppyseed cinnamon rolls are all amongst the sweet dishes we’ll get to satisfy our sugar cravings with, along with savory options including focaccia bread and an array of salads.
Plus, a glimpse at their night shift menu, which will be served 11p.m. to 2a.m., features grilled cheese on Ezekiel bread, open faced tuna melts (with a vegan option available), chili served with cornbread, garlic bread cauliflower, and grilled pb&js (though the menu is subject to change).
Superiority Burger will open in the East Village on Avenue A in the former home of Odessa. According to GrubStreet the new location will have roughly 80 seats (compared to their previous six), will be open almost all day, and will possess a liquor license that doesn’t require them to close until 4 a.m.
The spot is known for drawing crowds and having lines, and we’re likely to expect the same thing at their new location–a quick glance at their Instagram posts shows comments from eager diners saying things like “I walk past every day being like are they open yet?,” “Can’t wait omg,” and “When?!?!” …now that’s straight and to the point.
Just two days ago they posted on their Instagram a glimpse at a “Grand Opening” sign, so all we can hope for is that they open their doors some time soon!
