Summer is Almost Here, And So Is Free Kayaking With Stunning Skyline Views

Catch the best views of the city from NYC’s surrounding waterways with a free kayaking session this summer!

As of May 30, the city’s water activities will officially commence. Brooklyn Bridge Park Boathouse will bring their kayaks out for visitors to enjoy the simple pleasure of kayaking, for free, with breathtaking views of the skyline. Weather permitting, the boathouse will offer free walk-up sessions from Pier 2 on Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays through August. You don’t need any prior kayaking experience to take one out for a spin on the water, but they do recommend wearing water-friendly clothes as your feet and seat may get a bit wet. There will also be a safety boater on the water if you need any assistance (they’ll be in a red vest).

Due to how busy it gets, kayakers will only get 20 minutes on the water per sessions and wait times can get long so be sure to arrive early! If you’re looking to paddle with a partner or child there are several double kayaks available as well.

Session hours are as follows:

  • Thursday 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Sunday 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
