The people responsible for this study obviously Haven’t spent New Years Eve freezing, hungry and desperate for the bathroom in Times Square… nevertheless, we rank the highest out of 100 US cities.
We know how to throw a party here in New York City. The fact that we’ve been ranked the best place for New Years Eve celebrations will come as a surprise to some, and obvious to others. Citywide celebrations always come at a cost to the average city dwellers sanity; delays, crowds, high prices.
New Year’s Eve is big business for the city. It’s estimated that with 180 million people tune in to the ball drop in Times Square and around 83% of consumers spend around $200 on the evening.
A new survey by WalletHub named NYC the best city in the USA for New Year’s Eve celebrations. The survey compares 100 of the country’s largest cities across three key dimensions: entertainment & food, cost, and safety and accessibility. It’s not hard to imagine how we won when it’s broken down like that, huh? The number of nightlife (restaurant, bars, clubs) options per capita easily put NYC in the lead from the word “go”.
A deeper dive into the numbers though does show a little of the real story. Where we rank first in entertainment, and 6th in safely and accessibility, we don’t fare so well when it comes to cost. New York City places in 99 in terms cost, beaten only by Miami. God knows what they are doing out there in Florida to make it more expensive than here.
