Step Back in Time and See What NYC Looked Like in the 1930s
In 1935, photographer Berenice Abbott documented the city for a project called Changing New York.

She photographed side streets and stores deciding not to focus only on landmark buildings. Over the course of four years she took 305 photographs.

They were compiled into a book in 1939. Here’s a look at a handful of the images she shot:
