Earlier this year an unofficial Aretha Franklin tribute appeared at the Franklin Street stations in NYC just before she passed, and the MTA made the changes official soon after. Now, a similarly unofficial Bruce Springsteen tribute has appeared at the Spring Street station in Manhattan.
The subway station was taken over by Springsteen earlier last week, according to an initial report by Bowery Boogie. On the tiles below “Spring” someone drew in “Steen” in the same black and white style font as above.
The addition was noticed on the E train platform, and just below “Springsteen” a straphanger took liberty is writing “The Boss.”
The station has been undergoing renovations recently, and while this doesn’t appear to be the work of the MTA we wouldn’t mind if the new additions stayed up.
