According to meteorologists, today’s storm will be the worst of the season. With upwards of 15 inches of snow in trajectory to hit NYC, the best idea today is to curl up indoors with a nice cup of hot chocolate.
Although yesterday was the official first day of spring, it seems as if winter is here to stay. Of the four major winter storms we have seen this season, this is the first in which city schools have been closed. Mayor De Blasio has warned against unnecessary travel and cited dangerous conditions as the reason for cancellations.
According to AccuWeather meteorologist Dave Samuhel, wind gusts are forecast to reach speeds of 40 to 45 mph and the storm will significantly impact travel. The MTA has also made a statement, explaining that if the snow reaches up to 10 inches in certain areas, they will temporarily suspend service to clear tracks. New Jersey Transit will also be implementing a severe weather rail schedule.
The storm will also likely cause some power outages as snow is expected to be heavy and wet.
