For autumn done right, hop aboard the Metro-North and make your way to the Sleepy Hollow Street Fair on Saturday, October 5th.
The mother of all fall festivals, this Westchester extravaganza sets the bar exceptionally high. You can expect close to 200 vendors and nearly 5,000 visitors from near and far making the most out of the New York Halloween town.
While perusing the happenings taking place on Beekman Avenue, expect seasonal trinkets and decor, food trucks, music, a bouncy house for kiddos, and of course, a taste of the local neighborhood. That means you should expect a drop-in from the unofficial town icon, the Headless Horseman, who will show up on his stallion in his finest creepy cape. He’s easy to find: he’s the one without a head.
Sleepy Hollow has been a seasonal destination for years. The setting of Washington Irving’s famed tale, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, this historical literary hotspot is known for its quaint yet spooky atmosphere, including the Old Dutch Church (mentioned in Irving’s story) and the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. Here you’ll find the resting place of the author and a long list of famed historical figures: Andrew Carnegie, Walter Chrysler, William Rockefeller, Elizabeth Arden, and Alice Brady, to name just a few.
We highly suggest you don’t leave the area without a trip to the nearby Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze, which is now celebrating its 20th year. The event houses 7,000 hand-carved gourds that are transformed into works of art celebrating the best of the season and all things New York.
Check out the The Sleepy Hollow Tarrytown Chamber of Commerce for all local happenings this spooky season.
