One of the year’s most stunning moons will be visible this weekend from NYC!
On Saturday, February 8, New Yorkers will be able to look up at the sky and see the very first supermoon of the year, where the moon will be bigger and shine brighter than any other month. A supermoon is also a full moon, but only occurs when its orbit is closest to the Earth (hence why it looks so much larger). This year, however, the stunning supermoon is also a Snow Moon!
According to the Farmers’ Almanac, the snow moon got its name because “the heaviest snow usually falls during this month” so native tribes would call the February full moon a Full Snow Moon.
The best time to catch the Super Snow Moon on Saturday will be at about 9:33pm!
