Just outside The Standard Hotel in the East Village, and in The Plaza of their High Line location, stand customized red phone booths that read “RING YOUR REP.” It connects you directly to your representatives when you pick up the phone. The red phone booth comes with step by step instructions on how it works.
As their website says:
“Simply lift the receiver, and you’ll be connected. Punch in your zipcode, choose the rep to whom you wish to speak, and leave your message. For the uninitiated: congressional staffers tally up calls for/against, and these calls can play a roll in how senators and representatives vote.”
The idea is to make it easy for the public to take action and voice their opinion on any issue they feel is important to them, “whether it’s health care, the environment, immigration, LGBTQ rights, [or] education.”
Hopefully this will make it easier for people to make their voices heard, especially those who aren’t sure how to do it. Just head to The Standard and pick up the red phone!
