The REAL ID deadline is quickly approaching, but the lines at the DMV are only growing longer. (Naturally.) Instead of putting yourself through a torturous wait, why not turn to the New York Auto Show for assistance?
Since the event is already on your spring calendar, you might as well enjoy the sweet rides and get your paperwork in order while there. Trust us, there’s a lot you won’t be able to do without a REAL ID, so don’t prolong the process of snagging one.
How to get a REAL ID at the New York Auto Show
After your trip to the Kia Telluride Driving Experience and the Nissan Z Experience, to name but a few options, book some time to stop by the New York State DMV Booth to get things rocking and rolling with your i.d. In addition to the required documents — see below for more information — you’ll need to present your show ticket as well.

Even better news? There’s no need to make an appointment. Ahh, easy breezy!
Here’s what you’ll need to bring from home:
Proof of Social Security Number
- Original Social Security Card
- 1099 or 1098 Tax Form
- Pay Stub with Full Social Security Number
Two Proofs of New York State Residency
- Utility Bill
- Bank Statement
- Postmarked Mail
* Ensure that the documents are dated within the past 12 months
Proof of Lawful Status in the U.S.
- Valid U.S. Passport
- U.S. Birth Certificate
- Certificate of Naturalization
To determine what you need based on your current ID type, the Auto Show reps suggest having a look at the NYS DMV’s online document guide. While you’re at it, do make sure to wear your finest outfit and style your hair to your liking: your official photo will be taken right at the booth as well. Talk about service!
The Auto Show will come to a close on Sunday, April 27, and the deadline for the REAL ID is May 7th, so hop to it! If you want to board those U.S. flights, you won’t be able to travel without it.
