After a massive success last year, Astoria will once again host its second-annual Ramadan Night Market on Thursday March 13th.
The event is the work of Malikah, an Astoria-based grassroots anti-violence and wellness organization that advocates against gender-based violence and hate crimes through self-defense training and community programming. The newfound annual tradition promotes “the best halal street food, Muslim-owned businesses, and a powerful sense of togetherness.”
Local businesses will congregate on Steinway Street in the heart of Little Egypt (between 25th and 28th Avenue) to showcase diverse and delicious offerings and delights from the community.
Although a vendor list is not yet available, notable businesses that participated last year include:
- Mars Bake Shop
- Small Batch Co.
- Modern Modesty
- Karachi Kabab Boiz
- Ibiza Juice Bar
Ramadan Night Market starts at 7:30pm and will run until 11pm.
The event is free to attend but is being held as a fundraiser for Malikah to keep women and girls safe by bringing them self defense workshops, keeping their safety center open, and bringing more programming to Queens. Additionally, all those who purchase a ticket will be given a raffle ticket and the chance to win a specially curated Malikah gift basket.
