A cidade de Nova York está comemorando o mês com vários eventos e exposições especiais, desde concertos especiais a exibições de filmes e exposições pop-up. Confira aqui as maneiras de comemorar o Mês da História Negra na cidade de Nova York:
1. Paley comemora o gênio da National Geographic: MLK/X-TwoMinds, One Movement ( Duas mentes, um movimento)
Esta novíssima exposição que chegará ao Paley Center em 1º de fevereiro contará com figurinos, adereços e peças de cenário da série Genius: MLK/X da National Geographic. Os visitantes serão imersos no mundo inspirador do Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X e do Movimento dos Direitos Civis da década de 1960.
Além disso, na noite de abertura, haverá a estreia da série e um painel com os atores da série Kelvin Harrison Jr. (Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.), Aaron Pierre (Malcolm X), Weruche Opia (Coretta Scott King) e Jayme Lawson (Betty Shabazz), além dos produtores Raphael Jackson Jr. e Damione Macedon. 2. Uma União de Esperança: 1869
Pela primeira vez, a casa de uma família negra está em exposição no Tenement Museum, no Lower East Side. A Union of Hope: 1869 acompanha a história de Joseph e Rachel Moore, dois nova-iorquinos negros que construíram suas casas nos cortiços de Lower Manhattan nas décadas de 1860 e 1870. Essa exposição de apartamentos investiga como os dois migraram (Joseph de Belvidere, NJ e Rachel de Kingston, NY) para Nova York e a comunidade que construíram em seu bairro e local de trabalho ao longo do caminho. 3. The Ways of Langston Hughes: Griff Davis e Artistas Negros em Construção
Esta exposição na Biblioteca Pública de Nova York mostra a vida e o trabalho do poeta da Renascença do Harlem, Langston Hughes, ao longo de seus anos. Ao longo de sua vida, ele fez amizades e se tornou mentor de criativos e profissionais negros. Essa exposição mostra fotos (tiradas por Griff Davis) de Hughes em seu habitat mais natural – ensinando estudantes, escritores, artistas visuais e artistas em diferentes períodos de amadurecimento. 4. Festival do Futuro Negro
De 18 a 25 de fevereiro, o Brooklyn Museum realizará uma semana de comemoração da Diáspora Africana e do Mês da História Negra. 5. Programa do Mês da História Negra do Thelma Hill Performing Arts Center
O Thelma Hill Performing Arts Center (THPAC), a organização de apresentações mais antiga do Brooklyn, e a Central Baptist Church of NYC apresentarão seu programa do Mês da História Negra no sábado, 24 de fevereiro, às 16h! Esse evento gratuito apresenta três obras com tema bíblico do coreógrafo Walter Rutledge, celebrando as contribuições dos negros para a música, a dança e a palavra falada.
6. O Renascimento do Harlem e o Modernismo Transatlântico
A exposição The Harlem Renaissance and Transatlantic Modernism será inaugurada no The Met em 25 de fevereiro. Ela contará com 160 obras de pinturas, esculturas, fotografias, filmes e objetos efêmeros que exploram como os artistas negros retrataram a vida moderna cotidiana nas novas cidades negras que tomaram forma nas décadas de 1920-40. Do florescente Harlem, em Nova York, a outras cidades povoadas durante a Grande Migração, artistas como Charles Alston, Aaron Douglas e outros retratam a época com seus próprios olhos. 7. Running for Civil Rights: The New York Pioneer Club, 1936 – 1976
Essa empolgante exposição na New York Historical Society detalha a história da Maratona de Nova York por meio do ativismo dos clubes de corrida New York Pioneer Club e New York Road Runners, sediados em Nova York. Liderada pelo corredor Ted Corbitt (1919-2007) e pelo ativista dos direitos civis Joseph Yancey (1910-1991), a exposição descreve como os dois trabalharam juntos para revolucionar o esporte e o espírito de inclusão associado à Maratona até hoje. 8. Giants (Gigantes): Art from the Dean Collection of Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys (Arte da Coleção Dean de Swizz Beatz e Alicia Keys)
Entre no mundo da coleção especial de arte visual de Swizz Beatz e Alicia Keys, que inclui mais de 100 obras importantes dos artistas negros diaspóricos Gordon Parks, Jean-Michel Basquiat e muitos outros. Com o objetivo de celebrar “artistas [negros] apoiando artistas”, a coleção apresenta álbuns, equipamentos musicais, bicicletas BMX e tudo mais. 9. Exposição de Belas Artes do Harlem
O Harlem Fine Arts Show está comemorando seu 16º ano como a maior exposição itinerante de artes com artistas da diáspora africana. A exposição contará com até 100 artistas de ascendência africana, caribenha e negra em uma experiência cultural e festival monumental de três dias. Saiba mais aqui.

11. Nordstrom’s Black-Owned Brands Pop-Up Shop (Loja pop-up de marcas de propriedade de negros da Nordstrom)
Visite a Nordstrom em Midtown durante todo o mês e experimente a nova loja pop-up que destaca marcas negras de todas as partes! Os clientes poderão fazer compras de vestuário, acessórios, beleza e casa, e muito mais. 12. Museu Casa de Louis Armstrong
O Louis Armstrong House Museum é uma celebração do legado do famoso músico negro Louis Armstrong. O que antes era sua casa com sua esposa Lucille é agora um museu mobiliado, oferecendo uma visão da vida da lenda icônica do jazz e de sua família. Durante o mês de fevereiro, serão oferecidas visitas especiais ao BHM de quinta a sábado, destacando suas contribuições para a era dos direitos civis. 13. Festival Rhythms & Movement of African American Culture (Ritmos e movimentos da cultura afro-americana)
Com duração de 7 dias e 16 apresentações, o Asase Yaa está organizando um festival que celebra a fusão de gêneros musicais e formas de dança africanos. Você pode esperar ver o Asase Yaa African American Dance Theater, a Asase Yaa Theater Company, o Asase Yaa Youth Ensemble, o Ife Youth Dance Theater e a Arkestra Africa durante o festival, apresentando danças de Gana, Nigéria, Senegal, Cuba e outros países. 14. História Negra Bêbada
O comediante Brandon Collins dá vida ao seu hilário podcast neste Mês da História Negra com um show ao vivo no Caveat em 10 de fevereiro.
