Following a trend Hollywood properties being adapted for the stage, of a new musical based on the hit 90’s movie, Pretty Woman, is coming to Broadway. Here’s everything you need to know.
2018 sees Hollywood adaptations take over Broadway. Jointing highly anticipated shows like Harry Potter And The Cursed Child, the Cruel Intentions Musical and Mean Girls the Musical is a brand new musical adaptation of Pretty Woman.
Pretty woman is a modern take on the classic fairy tale, Cinderella, and the musical My Fair Lady. Edward Lewis, a wealthy businessman, elicits the services of a prostitute while on a business trip in L.A. Vivan, played by Julia Roberts in the movie, stays with Edward for the weekend. The couple eventually falls for each other overcoming societal obstacles and growing as individuals …awwww.
It seems like a show should have been made years ago, its match made in heaven. Theatre about sex workers is what Broadway’s forte? No? How about shows like Miss Saigon, Les Misérables, Sweet Charity, The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, Irma La Douce, Gigi, New Girl in Town… still gonna argue with us about this?

Pretty Woman: The Musical’s lead roles have already been cast. Julia Roberts’ Vivan will be played by British actress Samantha Barks and breathing life into Richard Gere’s Edward is Tony Award winner Steve Kazee.
The play’s script comes from the scribes of the original movie, screenwriter J.F. Lawton and director Gary Marshall.
Music for the show is being composed by Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance. Yes Bryan Addams, Canadas Bonjovi. If you’ve never heard of Jim Vallance, he’s a long time collaborator of Addams and together they created some of Addams’ greatest hits, “Run to You” and “Summer of ’69.”
Pretty Woman: The Musical will be hitting Broadway in the Fall of 2018.
