The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has been talking about adding a subway extension to Jersey for over ten years. This time, it might actually happen.
According to the New York Times, the Port Authority will be partnering up with the MTA, New York City Transit and New Jersey Transit to commission a study on how public transport can be expanded across the Hudson River. One possible option is an extension to the 7 train. Apparently, the Port Authority received several bids from various contractors last week, however no particular plan is in the running.
As the number of New Jersey commuters increases steadily year after year, some plan needs to be put into place. Projections currently predict that by 2040, the number of commuters will be at a capacity in which new transit will no longer be an option but a necessity.
