In what can be described as the ultimate blast from the past, Planet Hollywood has officially marked a triumphant return to New York City, showing off a $20 million cutting-edge, technology-driven space that brings back the gaudiness of old Hollywood glamor in the best way possible. The announcement is an exciting new chapter in the brand’s iconic history, which dates back to 2001 for NYC.
The new 20,000-square-foot space has reopened its doors in Times Square, of course, and it did so in a totally over-the-top way. Ascending a glowing staircase–a sculptural tribute to the elegance of the Art Deco era–guests will find three floors of immersive dining and entertainment, with multiple bars and DJ booths spread throughout.
And it doesn’t take long to realize the restaurant has certainly made it out of the 90s–a canopy of glowing stars hangs above diners, shimmering walls pulse with life, and, rather than traditional memorabilia, over 692 video tiles encircle the entirety of the restaurant, bringing diners on an epic journey that far surpasses the restaurant’s four walls.
So though the restaurant has undergone a total modern makeover, every detail of the space has been “thoughtfully curated to provide guests with a unique dining adventure that feels fresh and exciting upon every visit.” Imagine digging into Kobe Cheesesteak Empanadas, Spicy Rigatoni Vodka, or Lobster Pot Pie while your surroundings appear as if you’re in a futuristic landscape?!
And, while we’re on the topic of food, guests can also enjoy the nostalgic “1993 Icons” section with beloved classics that pay homage to Planet Hollywood’s original menu including the World-Famous Chicken Crunch, Planet Nachos Grande, L.A. Lasagna, and St. Louis BBQ Ribs.
Even more, once the sun goes down, the vibes are set to electric and eclectic on the second and third floors, where multiple bars, signature cocktails, and two dynamic DJ booths will totally transform the space post-dinner service.
The restaurant chain launched in the 1990s though its flagship location, located on West 57th Street, found itself on the list of pandemic-induced restaurant closures back in 2020. Robert Earl, Founder and CEO of Planet Hollywood and Earl Enterprises, stated:
We’re relaunching Planet Hollywood in Times Square not just as a restaurant but as an all-encompassing sensory experience that magnificently combines innovative technology with the unique flair of Hollywood. This venue is poised to deliver exceptional entertainment and dining in the spirit of New York’s celebrated theatrical grandeur.
Planet Hollywood is now open, and a calendar of events will soon be posted on the restaurant’s website.
