We may not be in the sunny south or laying by the beach on an island, but there’s no reason New Yorkers can’t enjoy their own tropical escape within the city limits.
In 2016 there were talks of Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville coming to NYC, but early on this year that idea was taken off the table.
Now, Soho Properties have teamed up with MHP Real Estate Services to (hopefully) develop the Margaritaville that was once destined for Midtown. The space would be in Times Square (naturally) at 560 Seventh Avenue, and would be both a restaurant as well as a hotel.
According to a report by Real Deal, no plans are officially set but the concept is a nearly 120,000 square-foot building of 29-stories featuring upwards of 240 hotel rooms.
While we hope this comes to fruition—even though Times Square may not exactly need more tourist destinations—there will still be the “Escape to Margaritaville” Broadway show to look forward to regardless. Hitting the stage early next year.
