Bird watching in New York City just got a whole lot sweeter!
Today, the world welcomed in two brand new peregrine baby falcons, and two more are expected to hatch this weekend!
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey announced on Friday that the nest being formed on the Bayonne Bridge between Staten Island and New Jersey saw two newborns hatched on the bridge’s nesting tower.
Each year, Port Authority works very closesly with New York City’s environmental protection department (DEP) to help create safe nesting locations for birds in the city’s chaotic landscape.
This year’s new brood of hatchlings, known as eyasses, are actually endangered in New York State, even though they removed from the federal endangered species list in 1999.
How to watch the 24/7 livestream of the baby falcons hatching
The best part of these cute falcons being born is you can actually WATCH it happen live!
Port Authority has set up a falcon livestream cam where you can say hello the newbies and stick around to watch the newborns coming soon!
And don’t worry, these adorable little falcon chicks will be named and banded in the next few weeks so we can keep our eye on them!
