If you’ve been following along with L.A.’s adorable newly hatched bald eagles, and need some more cuteness in your life, you’ll want catch a glimpse of this eagle cam with two eaglets on the way, just 75 miles from Washington D.C.
The National Conservation Training Center (NCTC) Eagle Cam was first installed in 2005 after an American Bald Eagle pair made their nest on the campus of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services’ National Conservation Training Center in 2003 and hatched little eaglets in 2004. Now each nesting season, bird watchers and eagle fans can watch all of the live action online.
The 24/7 camera is a project in partnership with US Fish and Wildlife Service, Outdoor Channel, and the Friends of the National Conservation Training Center, and right now its documenting the 2025 nesting season!
Three eggs were laid in the month of February, and as of March 20th, 2025, the ‘hatch is happening.’ Observers caught the first “pip,” which is essentially a small hole in the eggshell made by the baby bird’s “egg tooth” on its beak. This signals the start of the hatching process. Eaglets will continue to enlarge the initial pip over a period of up to 12 hours, before completely emerging from the shell.
The first eaglet can now be adored via the eagle cam, in anticipation of the other two baby eagles expected to hatch in the next few days.
Following the typical hatching that occurs in mid-March, observers have an exciting 12 weeks to look forward, during which time, the eaglets will rapidly grow. By mid-June, the adult-sized young will be the first to leave the nest.
Bald eagles were fortunately removed from the endangered species list in 2007. They remain a nation symbol, native to North America.
