The Atlantic Antic is an annual street fair in Brooklyn featuring an exhaustive amount of various art, shopping, music, and food vendors. The fair is so large it goes through four neighborhoods! On it’s 43rd year running, Atlantic Antic is the oldest street festival in Brooklyn.
With that said, it’s the last festival of the summer and if you’re in the city on Sept. 24 you can’t miss it. While there will be countless musicians playing throughout the day on various stages, the most exciting stage will be the one hosting the 14th Annual Dumpling Eating Contest.
Created by Chef One, the manufacturer of a delicious line of dumplings, the contest will take place on the Atlantic Antic Main Stage at 2:00 pm.
Watch 48 men and women stuff their face with as many dumplings as they can within 2 minutes. Last year the winner of the women’s division was Molly Schuyler with a whopping 115 dumplings, and of the men’s division was David Brunelli with 89 dumplings. Will they be able to keep their titles this year? We shall see!
Chef One joined Atlantic Antic to host the event this year, fitting in with the street festival’s theme “The Pulse of Brooklyn” (aka all things Brooklyn). Along with the contest, Chef One will have a tent at the festival where you can purchase a variety of their savory hot dumplings—or frozen ones if you want to take them home for later instead. If you’re like the rest of us that need to rationalize buying heaps of dumplings, it might help to know that all proceeds from the event will be donated to Food Banks for NYC.
You’ll have plenty of time to explore the festival as a whole and wander through Boerum Hill, Brooklyn Heights, Cobble Hill, and Downtown Brooklyn during the 6-hour-long festival, but if you’re a fan of dumplings there’s no way you can go to this event and NOT check out the eating contest!
