Award-winning South Korean hospitality group Glow Seoul has officially opened the doors to Oncheon, a celebrated Korean dining experience inspired by the healing traditions of onsen, otherwise known as hot springs. The space combines the serenity of onsen culture with meticulously crafted dishes, thus offering a holistic dining journey that nourishes both the body and soul.
And honestly, what more can you ask for in New York City than a tranquil escape that also offers delicious food?
The culinary portion of the experience–and yes, Oncheon is a full experience–is steeped in traditional Korean wellness dining rituals. The only thing hotter than the hot springs themselves is the food, which is inspired by the country’s vibrant food heritage and uses fresh, pure ingredients as a tribute to the balanced lifestyle found in Korea’s countryside.
And while the menu takes diners on a journey back to the simple pleasures of Korean cuisine, celebrating wholesome, mindful eating, the flavors are anything but simple. Standouts include Signature Doenjang and Soy Sauce Sukiyaki broths for the Shabu-Shabu Experience (Japanese hot pot), as well as Spicy Curry and Porcini Mushroom options.
Additional highlights include à la carte options such as Seafood Kimchi Jeon, Yuk-jeon (pan-fried beef in egg batter), Bulgogi Gujeolpan, Crispy Beef Belly Fritters, and Sous Vide Pork Belly (Su-yuk). For a more immersive dining experience, guests can enjoy the Chanhap Meal Box, a beautifully layered octagonal box with courses like Sweet & Spicy Tofu Gangjeong, Soy-braised Nuts, Bossam Rolled Kimchi, and Cheongpomuk Salad (Mung Bean Jelly).
Diners will find that at the heart of Oncheon’s menu is the belief that food can be both restorative and comforting (and insanely delicious).
The craziest part of it all, though: your entire dining experience is immersed in Korean hot spring culture, aka you’ll literally be dining beside a hot spring! The space itself is inspired by the ambiance of traditional Korean hanok inns, bringing together sleek wood finishes, moss-covered baths, soft lighting, and the sound of flowing water to allow guests to truly unwind during their meal through a multi-sensory experience that mirrors the calm of an onsen.
The traditional hearth (also known as “agung-I”) will make guests feel like they’re dining in a Korean countryside home, and displays of natural imagery that change with each seasons ensures each visit unique.
Since its inception in Seoul’s vibrant Iksun-dong district, Oncheon has become a beloved destination for both locals and tourists alike. The restaurant’s rapid rise to fame—becoming a must-visit in just six months—speaks to its ability to allow guests to fully immerse themselves in the experience of “따뜻한 휴식” (Korean for warm relaxation). Its NYC Koreatown location also serves as its debut U.S. location.
You can make a reservation on their website but don’t wait–we have a feeling this restaurant will pretty quickly become just as big in NYC as it is in Seoul!
