Nothing beats taking a dip on a piping hot NYC summer day, but +POOL it looking outclass every other swimming pool in the city… and Neil Patrick Harris wants you to know it.
If you’re anything like us, the idea of swimming in the East River is about as appealing as eating a toenail sandwich. One enterprising trio has come up with a way that will have New Yorkers clamoring over themselves to swim to take a dip in the murky water. In their latest marketing push, the team produced a mini documentary with an NYC icon narrating.
+POOL (taking its name from the proposed shape) is a floating pool containing over 600,000 gallons of fresh, clean, water filtered directly from the East River.

This may not be the first time you’ve heard of +POOL, they launched their first Kickstarter back in 2011 and the project has reared its head almost every year since. So far they have raised around $40,000, but what makes this year different is that back in April they partnered with Heineken. The brewer has said that it will donate $100,000 if +POOL can deliver 100,000 pledges. as of writing this article, they’re on 5673.
At a party hosted at Watermark Pier 15 last Thursday, the +POOL team unveiled a short film called “Floating an Idea: The + POOL Story”, highlighting how the team is making their project a reality, and their years-long commitment to their dream. If you’ve been following the story since 2011, or if this is the first you’re reading about it, there are some interesting nuggets in the video for you …oh yeah, and it’s narrated by Neil Patrick Harris!
Bear in mind that USA Today reported that the project would cost $15 million in total to complete. When we’re dealing with numbers like that, Heineken’s offer is just a drop in the ocean.
Head on over to their site and make a pledge, maybe it’ll get completed while we still look good in a swimsuit. Check out some renderings of how the finished project will look:
