New York City, Long Island, Connecticut, the Hudson Valley and Hudson and Bergen counties are currently under a wind advisory through Monday, February 17th. Gusts are expected to reach up to 60 mph in areas west of NYC and roughly 40 mph in the city.
A wind advisory is issued when strong winds are apparent, but not strong enough to require a high wind warning. An advisory is different from a wind watch and warning. The National Weather Service urges people to be cautious while driving in a wind advisory, and that outdoor objects be secured. At this time, empty tractor trailers and tandem trailers are not permitted to use MTA Bridges while the advisory is in effect. Bikers are encouraged to use caution as well.
While the wind advisory remains in effect, NYC can expect wind gusts up to 41mph, which can make the temperature feel like 11 degrees. These estimated strong winds could potentially bring down trees and tree limbs, result in power outages, and scatter unsecured objects. NWS encourages drivers to take extra caution today.
Now that last week’s series of snowstorms is behind us, we’re due for cold single-digit temperatures on Tuesday, February 18th.
