Today, June 5, is Breonna Taylor’s birthday.
She would have turned 27 years old, but she was killed in her home by police officers in March in Louisville, Kentucky. Though officers have been arrested and some charged for George Floyd’s murder, none have been arrested or charged for Breonna.
Here are planned vigils taking place in NYC today to remember Breonna and show solidarity in seeking justice for her death:
Queens
- Astoria Park at 5:30pm
- Court Square in Long Island City at 6pm
- Queensbridge Park at 6:30pm, Field #2
Brooklyn
- Grand Army Plaza at 2pm
- Domino Park at 5pm
- McCarren Park at 7pm
Manhattan
- Washington Square Park at 4pm
- 125th & 7th Ave at 3pm
- The Cathedral Church 1047 Amsterdam Ave at 6pm
These are events that have been shared as specifically honoring Breonna, but there are additional marches and protests taking place throughout the city, and others that may be planned over the course of the day. The Instagram account @justiceforgeorgenyc shares updates.
If you’re looking for additional action to take, this comprehensive list features 10 action items you can do to stand in solidarity and demand justice for Breonna by signing petitions, donating to her family, writing to the Kentucky Attorney General, and much more.
