It’s time to get out the sunscreen, New York! Potentially record-breaking temperatures are on the way this week, with multiple days of sunshine and a taste of summer arriving far earlier than usual.
The National Weather Service describes what’s ahead as “unseasonably warm temperatures,” a shift that is gladly welcome after last week’s freeze warnings.
Highs are expected to climb well above seasonal norms, signaling a sharp turnaround in the city’s spring weather pattern.
The warm-up begins immediately.
Temperatures on Monday are forecast to approach 80 degrees, roughly 20 degrees above average for mid-April.
As the week progresses, the heat builds even further. By Wednesday, parts of the city could see highs nearing 90 degrees, putting long-standing records in jeopardy.
The current April 15th record in Central Park stands at 87 degrees, set back in 1941, and could soon be surpassed.

According to the National Weather Service:
- Monday: high near 78°F
- Tuesday: high near 79°F
- Wednesday: high near 83°F (with a chance of afternoon showers)
- Thursday: high near 78°F
- Friday: high near 76°F

Meanwhile, AccuWeather is projecting even hotter conditions across the city:
- Monday: 77°F (RealFeel ~76°)
- Tuesday: 82°F (RealFeel ~87°)
- Wednesday: 88°F (RealFeel ~91°) — potentially breaking the April 15 record of 87°
- Thursday: 86°F
- Friday: 81°F
Even with the heat, you’ll want to grab an umbrella, and not just to protect from the sun’s rays. Both forecasts hint at isolated afternoon thunderstorms, particularly Tuesday and Wednesday, as warmer, more humid air moves in.
Expect a summery feel, warm nights, and a reminder that spring in New York can flip fast, from frost warnings to near-90° heat in just days. We’ll see you outside, NYC!
