It’s no secret that living in New York City is a dream come true for many people, and this study just proved it!
Cinch Home Services conducted a study where they surveyed 1,067 Americans to find out what their top U.S. dream cities are, and NYC ranked in at the number one spot out of ten.
There were a few different things taken into consideration when deciding what actually makes a city a so-called “dream” city. According to this survey, the aspects of a dream city include:
- Culture
- Entertainment options
- Green spaces and outdoor activities
- Job opportunities
- Warmer climate
- Dining options
- Diversity
- Family and friends
- Public transportation
- Cooler climate
- Quality of education
This study also proved though that it’s not always easy living in your dream city, and many people reported having to make several sacrifices in order to afford living in said city.
What would people actually sacrifice though? Among the most popular responses are:
- Dipping into savings
- Only going out once per week
- Living off cheap food
- Sacrificing vacation days for extra money
- Working a second job
Just over 44% of respondents had actually moved to their dream city, and 3 out of 4 respondents said it was worth making some sacrifices in order to be able to afford living there.
After all was said and done, the top 10 dream U.S. cities ranked as follows:
- New York City, NY
- San Diego, CA
- Los Angeles, CA
- Denver, CO
- San Francisco, CA
- Chicago, IL
- Dallas, TX
- Miami, FL
- Colorado Springs, CO
- Austin, TX
It’s no surprise that New York City ranks in at the number one spot—there’s certainly no shortage of things to do, it’s the world’s fashion and finance capital, and it is undeniably culturally-rich. So, if you ask us, we definitely think it’s worth it living here!
