NO. Or at least not according to a survey from the magazine Travel + Leisure. New York City has been surpassed as the “Rudest City in America” by Pheonix, in 2nd place, and Miami, in first.
Being a New Yorker, I expect that like me, deep down, you’re a little pissed off that NYC was knocked off of the no.1 spot of this list… just because we have to be the top of any list we’re a part of, right?
The article’s author, Katrina Brown Hunt, suggests that tourists expect “a certain demeanor as part of their authentic New York City experience”. So perhaps we aren’t any nicer… in hipster terms… we’ve become mainstream.
Personally I’m glad this reputation is slowly falling away from us. Let’s resist the urge to head out and earn out no.1-rudeness status back.
What do you think? Are we really getting nicer? Here is the rest of the list:
10. Ann Arbor, Michigan
9. Colorado Springs, Colorado
8. Dallas, Texas
7. Boston, Massachusetts
6. Salt Lake City, Utah
5. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
4. Los Angeles, California
3. New York City, New York
2. Phoenix, Arizona
1. Miami, Florida
