NYC is often referred to as the city of dreams, and this new study is proving it’s a very appropriate nickname!
According to a study by American Home Shield, NYC is America’s most desirable city.
American Home Shield analyzed the number of Google searches for “moving to x,” swapping x for each state, the 100 most populated cities, and every country worldwide. And since the pandemic caused such a large number of residents to relocate, whether due to changes in their employment or otherwise, there was a lot of data to analyze. These figures were then used to identify the places residents of each city and state would most like to relocate to.
According to the data, residents in 52 of the 100 largest U.S. cities search for information on relocating to NYC. Regardless of the fact that NYC has the second highest cost of living in the entire world, opportunity and the hustle and bustle of the city is often what draws people towards it.
Ironically enough, the study also shows that the majority of NYCers would rather live in Miami, most likely due to its warmth and relative affordability. In fact, Florida as a whole is America’s most desirable state to move to, standing as the most commonly searched relocation destination in 22 states.
As for the most desirable country, Americans’ most common dream of moving abroad involves relocating to Canada, which is the first choice of residents in 42 states.
Though a lot of people moved during and after the pandemic, many stayed behind. And we don’t know about you, but it’s safe to say we’ll stay right here in NYC, high living costs and all!
