NYC is undoubtedly a literary hub, from being the birthplace of incredible icons such as James Baldwin to having charming bookstores located on every corner. It’s even the most written about city in the world! So it’s not surprising to hear that NYC is home to one of the most beautiful libraries in all of the U.S. Can you guess which one it is?
Ok, we won’t actually make you guess! According to One Thousand Libraries, NYC’s Morgan Library is one of the most beautiful libraries in the entire country. Described by them as a “haven for bibliophiles,” this library is more than a century old.
In fact, it actually existed first as financier Pierpont Morgan’s private collection. It was his son, J. P. Morgan, who made the decision to turn the library into a public institution.
The Morgan Library recently underwent a $13 million renovation last summer. The entire project improved the grounds surroundings, enhanced the building’s exterior lighting, expanded public access, and opened a new garden on the campus.
Among the libraries joining the Morgan Library that have been deemed the most beautiful book places in the “USA’s literary tapestry” are the George Peabody Library in Baltimore and the Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library at Yale University. Explore the entire list here.
