Move over, Ronald McDonald: Mixue is officially in town.
The Chinese ice cream and boba chain with 45,000 storefronts has touched down in NYC at 266 Canal Street, and New Yorkers are more than ready to indulge. Since the sweet spot holds the title of the world’s largest fast food chain, it makes sense to finally arrive in the States, starting with NYC. (Honestly, we were expecting it sooner.)
Some popular items? Creamy mango boba, brown sugar bubble tea, ice cream hazelnut toffee latte, and the tried and true soft serve for those who appreciate the classics. Your go-to ice cream order might be due for a switch-up now.
Mixue Bingcheng lands in NYC
Mixue — which means “Honey snow ice city,” kickstarted in 1997 with humble beginnings.
According to Fortune, university student Zhang Hongchao asked his grandmother for a little bit of money to open up a fast-food stand. Fast forward nearly 30 years, and that li’l project is a global phenomenon and Hongchao is a billionaire. The company rivals heavyweights like Starbucks, McDonald’s, and Walmart.
But you’ve likely unfamiliar with it because the majority of those 45,000 stores are in China and roughly 11 other neighboring countries — but it’s expanding, and quickly.
“Even on social media like TikTok and others, there is a joke that any empty shophouse would soon turn into a Mixue store,” Rahma Yuliana told the Associated Press, referring to the popular rise of the chain in Indonesia.
