When we first saw this week’s forecast calling for temperatures in the 80s, we were excited—until we realized it also meant scattered thunderstorms and plenty of humidity. In fact, NYC will be more humid than Honolulu, Hawaii—the most humid city in the entire country, according to a study from HouseFresh.
Starting today, Monday, July 14th through Sunday, July 20th, NYC will experience an average humidity of 86% daily. Meanwhile, Honolulu, a city that normally has 337.1 uncomfortably humid days per year, will only have an average humidity of 61% this week. Uncomfortable humid days are defined by having a dew point of 60°F or above—the point when the air begins to feel humid

Sunday, July 20th will be the most humid day in NYC at 79%. New Yorkers can expect thunderstorms with a high temperature of 81°F. However, the hottest day of the week in NYC will be on Thursday, July 17th with a high temperature of 92°F.
Although it’ll be a sticky week in NYC, Long Beach, New York is actually the most humid city in the state, averaging about 83 uncomfortable humid days annually.
Yet, NYC nor Long Beach are considered among the most humid cities in the country. Based on the frequency of uncomfortable humid days a year, the 20 most humid cities in the United States include: Honolulu, Miami, Cape Coral, Palm Bay, Sarasota, Tampa, McAllen, Orlando, Houston, Jacksonville, Baton Rouge, New Orleans, San Antonio, Charleston, Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Columbia, Birmingham, and Memphis. Unsurprisingly, seven cities in the top 10 are in Florida.

Due take caution when dealing with humid conditions, especially the elderly, people on medication and those with pre-existing conditions. Severe humidity can result in breathing problems, skin rashes, and aggravation of heart issues.
To combat these effects, try to dress in loose-fitting clothing, drink lots of fluids, and be on the lookout for humidity-induced symptoms or sickness. Stay cool, NYC!
