New York City, Long Island and the Hudson Valley are all currently under a State of Emergency, as declared by Governor Kathy Hochul this morning, due to flash flooding throughout the region.
An overnight downpour brought rates of 1 to 2 inches of rainfall per hour, and the clouds gave no mercy as we entered into the early morning. Experts say the Tri-state area could receive up to 7 inches of rain from today’s storm.
In order to promote safe transportation throughout the city, MTA service has been limited and some airports are experiencing delays and closures. Here’s everything we know so far in terms of closures:
Train Service Suspensions
The MTA is advising New Yorkers to stay home if travel is not necessary. Trains are experiencing severe disruptions.

Airport Delays
The FAA’s Air Traffic Control System Command Center is releasing the latest updates in regards to airport service and status information.
John F. Kennedy International Airport
John F. Kennedy International Airport is experiencing flight disruptions. Stay up to date on the status of specific flights by checking with the airline specifically.
Newark Liberty International Airport
Arrival flights to Newark are experiencing airborne delays around 15 minutes. The airport expressed to allocate extra time to get to your destination.
LaGuardia Airport
LGA is experiencing average delays of 56 minutes. Planes coming into LGA will not be able to depart until 11:54am. LGA’s Terminal A has been closed until further notice.
Street Closures
In addition to street closures, many bridges have put speed restrictions in place. Please be mindful of alternative routes.
Brooklyn
All lanes of the Belt Parkway at Exit 6 – Cropsey Ave are closed in both directions
Bronx
Major Deegan Expressway is closed in both directions at 230th Street
Manhattan
FDR Drive is closed at Delancey Street in both directions
Queens
All lanes in both directions are closed on Cross Island Parkway
Staten Island
Travis Avenue between Victory Boulevard and Mulberry Avenue is blocked
