The past few days in NYC have been miraculously above freezing, following a nine-day stretch when daily temperatures never climbed past 32 degrees. In short, is everyone enjoying their tropical reprieve?
Kidding, of course. But with what we’ve grown accustomed to these past few weeks, above 30 and sunny somehow feels like summer. We wish it was here to stay, but we’re unfortunately headed for another weekend where the best agenda may just be to stay inside under a blanket, or five.

❄️ This week’s temperatures
Predictions for this week were looking frigid, with some predictions even expecting the below-freezing streak to reach 15 days, which would have been the longest record in 65 years.
Miraculously, we got a bit of a reprieve during the first half of this week, when Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday all experienced highs at or above 32 degrees.
🥶 What to expect this weekend
According to reports by AccuWeather The Weather Channel, and ABC7 we’re back to below freezing, and then some.
Saturday is the roughest day of the weekend. Snow showers may come and go through the morning, with about a 40% chance of snow. Temperatures are expected to start near 26° F early, then tumble through the day, falling to around 10°F by afternoon. Strong northwest winds of 20–30 mph, with gusts over 40 mph, will make it feel sharply colder than the actual air temperature.
Saturday night turns downright brutal. Skies will likely clear out, but the cold settles in, with lows expected to near 5°F and northwest winds still blowing at 15–25 mph, creating dangerous wind chills.
Sunday offers sunshine but no relief. According to a report by New York Metro Weather, real-feel temperatures will fall 20-30 degrees below zero in the morning. Highs will struggle to reach 18°F, and northwest winds of 10–20 mph will keep wind chills well below zero all day. Sunday night stays clear and frigid, with temperatures dropping to around 7°F and winds continuing at 10–15 mph.

That’s unfortunately not all. The National Weather Service warns of an arctic cold front that will bring the coldest wind chills, expected from Saturday night into Sunday morning. Wind chill values could plunge to -20 to -25°F inland, and -10 to -20°F elsewhere, creating potentially dangerous conditions for anyone spending time outdoors.
If you have weekend plans, be prepared for extreme cold, strong winds, and reduced visibility during snow showers. Dress in layers, limit time outside when possible, and keep an eye on updates as the arctic air settles in. 🥶❄️
