Much to the dismay of its sweater-loving residents, New York City has apparently decided that fall can wait. After last weekend’s nor’easter brought heavy rain, clouds, and chilly temperatures that felt much more like the start of sweater season, NYC is now pivoting right back toward summer-like weather.
According to the National Weather Service, temperatures will steadily climb throughout the week, reaching the upper 70s on Thursday before hitting around 80 degrees on Friday. So, if you weren’t quite ready to pack away your summer clothes, consider this your sign to keep them within reach.
The warmup won’t last forever, though. Temperatures are expected to drop back into the low 70s by Saturday, followed by a rainy Sunday with a high near 68 degrees.

☀️ NYC’s 80-degree weather is coming back
The week starts relatively mild, with Tuesday bringing partly sunny skies and a high around 72 degrees. Wednesday will be a little warmer, reaching about 74 degrees under mostly sunny skies.
Then things start to feel noticeably more summer-like. Thursday is expected to reach 78 degrees, with mostly sunny skies and southwest winds around 7 to 9 mph. By Friday, the National Weather Service is forecasting mostly sunny skies and a high near 80 degrees.

🍂 Here’s the forecast for the rest of the week
- Tuesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 72 degrees. Temperatures drop to around 62 overnight.
- Wednesday: Mostly sunny and a little warmer, with a high near 74 degrees. Low around 66 at night.
- Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 78 degrees. Overnight temperatures stay mild, around 69.
- Friday: Mostly sunny and around 80 degrees, making it the warmest day of the week.
- Saturday: Partly sunny, with temperatures dropping back to around 72 degrees. There’s a 50% chance of showers overnight.
- Sunday: A much cooler and wetter day, with showers likely and a high near 68 degrees. There’s a 60% chance of precipitation.
- Monday: Partly sunny, with a high around 68 degrees.
The warmup is a pretty dramatic turnaround from the chilly, rainy conditions New Yorkers experienced over the weekend. But if you’ve been waiting for a reason to squeeze in one more rooftop drink, outdoor walk, or summer outfit before the season officially changes, Friday’s forecast might be your last good excuse for a while.
After that, temperatures are expected to settle back into the upper 60s and low 70s, with rain also returning to the forecast over the weekend. So enjoy that 80-degree day while you can, NYC. Fall is still coming—we promise.
