The New York Red Bulls have introduced a redesigned Altec Lansing Sensory Room at Sports Illustrated Stadium, aiming to make live sports more inclusive for fans with autism and sensory sensitivities. The space is a collaboration with audio brand Altec Lansing and nonprofit KultureCity.
A new era of accessibility at Red Bulls games
The room offers a comfortable, calming environment for individuals who experience sensory overload, especially during loud or high-energy match moments.
What is a Sensory Room?
Located on the 5th floor of the stadium, the Altec Lansing Sensory Room is fully equipped with noise-canceling headphones, visual cue cards, fidget toys, and calming lighting. The headphones include Altec Lansing’s Kid Safe 2-in-1 ANC and ComfortQ 2.0 models, designed to reduce noise without isolating fans from the game entirely.
The space is open during all home matches and special events, no special ticket required. Families can visit the Fan Services desk to access the room on matchday.
Red Bulls lead in sensory accessibility
The Red Bulls have prioritized autism and sensory inclusion since opening their original sensory room in 2017. The recent update, launched during the club’s Autism Acceptance Match against Chicago Fire FC, signals their ongoing commitment to improving fan experience for everyone.
On that day, the club also introduced a variety of sensory-friendly features, including lowered stadium music, quiet zones, and sensory kits with tools to help fans feel grounded and calm.
A big change for NYC sports events
For families across New York City dealing with autism or other sensory processing disorders, the revamped sensory room offers a rare opportunity to attend professional sports events without stress or overstimulation.
It’s a game-changer for accessibility in live entertainment and a model that could inspire other NYC venues to follow suit.
This initiative shows how sports and inclusivity can go hand in hand, and how the Red Bulls are leading that charge in New York.
