They say April showers bring May flowers, but this year April is NOT bringing us one thing: 7 and N subway service between Manhattan and Queens.
According to the MTA, 7 and N train service will be suspended between Queens and Manhattan beginning Saturday, April 6th at 12am through Monday, April 8th at 4am.
The service disruptions are part of the MTA’s Queensboro Plaza N, W, 7 accessibility project and their ongoing work to improve the 7 line. The current phase of the project–which includes installing new elevators, ADA boarding areas, a new ADA ramp, modified pedestrian bridges, and more–requires suspending the train service between Queens and Manhattan for several weekends in early 2024.
Trains on the 7 line will not run between 74th St-Broadway and Times Square-42nd Street. Instead it will run in the following sections:
- Between Flushing-Main St and 74 St-Broadway
- Between Times Sq-42 St and 34 St-Hudson Yards
Additionally, N trains won’t run between 39th Av-Dutch Kills and 57th St-7 Avenue. Instead it will run in the following sections:
- Between Coney Island-Stillwell Av and 57 St-7 Av and via the Q line to/from 96 St
- Between Astoria-Ditmars Blvd and 39 Av-Dutch Kills
To combat these service changes, the LIRR will accommodate straphangers at no additional cost for trips between Flushing, Mets-Willets Point, Woodside, and Penn Station or Grand Central. The MTA also plans to run additional service on E and R lines.
Free shuttle buses will also run between 74 St-Broadway and Queens Plaza (Q107), Queens Plaza and Vernon Blvd-Jackson Av (Q93), and 39 Av-Dutch Kills and Queens Plaza (Q108).
