They just did it.
Nike is a global presence so it was a just a matter of time before a new flagship space opened in NYC. This past Thursday, November 15, Nike’s House of Innovation 000 opened to the public. The enormous shop spans 68,000 square-feet of space over six stories. On each floor, you will be immersed into a different shopping experience and, based on customer data and demand, products on sale at the flagship will constantly be evolving.
Heidi O’Neill, president of Nike Direct explained in a statement that Nike is “always ask[ing] ourselves how can a store be as personal, responsive, easy and fast as a mobile shopping experience.” Part of their answer to that question is related to their omnichannel approach. By using the Nike app, customers can scan codes of the products that interest them to see if different sizes or colors are available in store, and actually have the products sent to the fitting room for them.
In addition to all that, the store is also equipped with a full customization wing where customers can take advantage of choosing different laces, fabrics and decals to personalize their purchases. Another new feature of the store, and a new potential trend in retail as a whole is instant checkout (much like the idea behind Amazon Go). No cash will be accepted at the new location and instead, a scan and pay system will be implemented so that customers can check out from anywhere in the store. Sounds pretty neat, huh?
