Who doesn’t love baby animals? We’re under a month away for Spring, which means our local zoos will soon be full of adorable little baby critters. One NY zoo is getting ahead of the curve by actually livestreaming the birth of their latest charge, a baby giraffe.
Animal Adventure Park in Harpursville, NY (a three hour drive from the city), is livestreaming a video of a giraffe about to give birth. As cute as we’ve been told that will be, from what I’ve been told, I’d eat breakfast before watching, just in case.
The mom, a 15 year old giraffe named April, is currently still in labor as of writing this, but the calf, which will be her fourth, is expected soon.
Baby giraffes are about six feet tall when they are born… SIX FEET! For gods sake, someone get that poor mother an epidural!
Sadly, yesterday animal rights activists flagged the video as “sexually explicit” having the stream taken down for a while. A zoo official told pix11:
“We’re all on the same team, […] We want the best for these animals and would love to have them in their natural environment someday; but until we can protect their natural habitat and curb poaching, that is not going to happen.”
